Neutral Bay Junction, part of the shopping area on Military Road

Neutral Bay is a suburb on the lower North Shore of Sydney, Australia. The name originates from the time of the early colonial period of Australia, where different bays of Sydney harbour where zoned for different incoming vessels. Neutral Bay was where all foreign vessels would dock, hence the name 'neutral'.

Surrounding suburbs include North Sydney, Milsons Point, Cremorne, Mosman, and Seaforth. It is a part of the Municipality of North Sydney. The main shopping district of Neutral Bay is along Military Road, which is the only road that connects to the Spit Bridge.

Military Road has been a prominent local electoral issue, due to issues relating to the heavy traffic congestion on the road. Local residents have requested the construction of a tunnel to replace the Spit Bridge. The current solution to the congestion has been to widen the lanes on the Spit Bridge, which local residents have claimed is inadequate. Others have countered that the construction of a tunnel would be a very expensive project. Some claim that because the the electorate is a strong Liberal Party seat, the current Labor state government is unlikely to approve the construction of a tunnel.
