NewTek NewTek

NewTek - Definition and Overview

Founded in 1985 in Kansas, USA, by Tim Jenison, NewTek produces video post-production and imaging tools for personal computers.

The company's first products included DigiPaint and DigiView, both for the Commodore Amiga personal computer.

The DigiView product added slow scan digitising capabilities to that platform, allowing images to be imported at low cost, before modern image scanning technology was widely available.

Although not as well known as the de facto industry standard applications from Electronic Arts, the DigiPaint product offered at release the unique capability of editing and painting on images in the Amiga's unique hold-and-modify high colour mode in real time.

The company found widespread fame with the release of the Video Toaster, an innovative system for low cost video post production.

Now based in San Antonio, Texas, USA, current products include an updated Video Toaster system, the popular Lightwave 3D rendering and modeling program, and other paint and digital animation software for the broadcast industry.
