New York Ave-Florida Ave-Gallaudet U (Washington Metro) - Definition and Overview

New York Ave-Florida Ave-Gallaudet U is a Washington Metro station in Washington, DC on the Red Line. The station serves Gallaudet University, and is located near the intersection of New York Avenue and Florida Avenue in Washington's Northeast quadrant. It is the first in-fill station (a station built on existing line) in the system. The station opened for service on November 20, 2004.

The station is the first in the Metrorail system to be built with a mix of public and private funds. According to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), the project was budgeted at $90 million. The District contributed $40 million, the federal government $25 million, and a private partnership provided the remaining $25 million. The final cost was $103.7 million. While still under construction in early 2004, the station name was changed from New York Ave.
