News 14 Carolina is a 24-hour news service offered in North Carolina, USA, by Time Warner Cable.
In March of 2004, News 14 Carolina was the victim of a college prank whereby their inclement weather school and business closing information was altered with some funny results. The information was displayed on the bottom of the screen during regular newscasts for all viewers to see.
Among the results altered were the following:
- h4x0r3d Computer Services Inc.
- All Your Base Are Belong To Us
- Tutone Inc. will be closed, employees should call Jenny at 867-5309 for more details
- Windows32 Exception Error. If this is your first time seeing this, please reinstall Windows
The perpetrators got into the system by signing up as a legitimate business and changing their "business's" closing information after their initial entries were approved. As it was policy for News 14 Carolina to allow businesses and schools to change the information directly, the edited information was not noticed until after it aired.
