Nicholas of Lynne - Definition and Overview

Nicholas of Lynne Minorite a "priest with an astrolabe" from Oxford who is thought to have visited the northern lands around Greenland around 1360, returning to Bergen in 1364 in the company of 8 others. It is conjectured that he may also have visited Hudson Bay, contributing this information to the Kensington Rune Stone, and accounting for the large bay that appears on 16th century maps of the coastline of northern Canada long before its documentation by Henry Hudson in 1607. He is credited with having written a book called "Inventio Fortunate" (which is now lost) describing this.

Richard Hakluyt - (1552? - 1616) states that Nicholas of Lynne made a voyage to the lands near the North Pole in or about 1360.
