Nichrome is an alloy of nickel and chromium. Typically, the alloy is 80% nickel and 20% chromium. It is silvery-grey in colour, and has a high melting point of about 1800 °C, making it useful in heating elements, such as in hair dryers and toasters. The alloy tends to be expensive due to its high chromium content.
