Nieuport - Definition

Nieuport was a French aeroplane manufacturer founded in 1909 by Édouard de Nié Port. The company's full name was Société Anonyme Des Établissements Nieuport. Up until 1914 Nieuport specialised in the design and construction of racing monoplanes. In 1914 Gustave Delage joined the company and designed the series of sesquiplanes that made Nieuport famous during the First World War.

Nieuport also manufactured planes for the Royal Flying Corps, Royal Naval Air Service and, later, the Royal Air Force of the United Kingdom. Aircraft included:
