Noemi Noemi

Noemi - Definition

Na'amah (Hebrew: נעמה, meaning pleasant) is the name of two women and one place in the Bible:

  • In Genesis 4:22 she is mentioned as the daughter of Lamech and Zillah, and the sister of Tubal-Cain.
  • According to 1 Kings 14:21, 31, and 2 Chronicles 12:13, Naamah was an Ammonite wife of King Solomon and the mother of his heir, Rehoboam. She is the only one of Solomon's wives to be mentioned as having had a child.
  • In the Book of Joshua 15:41, Naamah is listed as one of the conquered cities of Canaan, possibly a tributary of the Canaanite royal city of Makkedah, which was settled by the Tribe of Judah.

According to the Midrash Genesis Rabbah, Naamah was also the wife of Noah, who is not named in the Bible.
