Noor Jehan - Definition and Overview

Noor Jehan (September 21, 1926 - December 20, 2000) was a famous Pakistani singer and actress.

She started her career in Showbiz with some Bollywood films before independence of Pakistan. After independence, she came to Pakistan and did some movies. She also plays background music of films. Her film music proves very popular and she stops acting and only concentrates on music.

Her real popularity was started with her Patriotic Songs during the 1965 War between Pakistan and India. The music, lyrics and style of singing those songs makes her a real Queen of Hearts for all Pakistanis.

Since then she was awarded many awards like Pride of Performance award, Tamga-e-Imtiaz (Pakistan's Top Civil Award) and countless cultural award.

She was known as Malka-e-Taranum (Queen of Melody) in Pakistan.

She died on December 20, 2000 in Karachi.
