 Norbiton railway station - Definition

Mainline train station for Norbiton, a suburb of the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames.

Topographically, the station lies frustratingly shy of the main line to the South Coast which was routed through New Malden and Surbiton - a route harking back to when Kingston decided it didn't want a flithy railway through its town centre. Norbiton station lies on a pretty much standalone loop which takes in Kingston, Twickenham and Richmond.

Trains pass through approximately every 15 minutes in either direction. Trains to London terminate at Waterloo station while in the other direction they end up at Shepperton or Strawberry Hill. The station lies in Zone 5 of Transport for London's zone travelcard system, and lies within short walking distance of Kingston Hospital.

The station's claim to fame is that it was used as the filming location from which the title character caught his train each morning (with decreasing punctuality) in the British sitcom, The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin. (In actual fact, Reggie's home town in the series was called Climthorpe.)
