 Normal vector - Definition 

A normal vector is a vector which is perpendicular to a surface or manifold. In an inner product space, the inner product of the normal vector with all vectors which comprise the surface is 0.

In a vector space, two non-zero vectors are said to be normal to each other if their scalar product equals zero.
