Norman Bates is the name of a demented psychotic character in the seminal Alfred Hitchcock horror movie Psycho (1960). Played by Anthony Perkins, his delusions and violence seem to have become the basis for the myth of the modern serial killer. He suffered a lot of mental abuse from his mother, who preached that women were evil. He murders his mother and her lover and preserves the corpse of his mother. Bates developed multiple personality disorder and assumed his mother's personality. While as his mother, Bates dressed up in a wig and his mother's clothing and killed people. As Norman, he was horrified to find yet another body but seemed undisturbed about disposing of the corpse. Norman doesn't realise that his mother is dead and this fact is revealed at the end of the first movie. He is sent to an institution and totally becomes his mother. Bates is released 22 years after the killings but starts murdering people again.
