The Norris Green housing estate is built on land donated to the city by Lord Derby, who was at the time resident at nearby Croxteth Park Hall. He doanted the land on the proviso that no public houses were to be built within the estate. There are still today no public houses inside the boundaries of the estate.

Much of the estate's council owned houses are prsently being either knocked down or renovated.
