North-South presidential summit corruption allegations - Definition and Overview

There were widespread allegations of corruption during the North-South presidential summit between the two Koreas. In 2000, South Korean President Kim Dae-jung participated in the first North-South presidential summit with North Korea's leader Kim Jong Il, mainly for which he won the Nobel Peace Prize. The peace prize has brought much controversy, however. The former president faces allegations of forming an organizational lobby to assist him winning the Nobel Peace Prize, He is also suspected of having given government money to Hyundai, which in turn paid the money to the North Korean government (ostensibly for such things as opening up the Kŭmgang-san tourist area). In addition, it is alleged that he concealed his knowledge of North Korea's nuclear weapons program even though he was informed of it before the summit.
