A diesel train on the NYMR
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) is a heritage railway in North Yorkshire, England. The 18 mile line runs across the North York Moors from Pickering via Levisham, Newton Dale and Goathland to Grosmont. It is run by the North York Moors Historical Railway Trust.
Pickering Station has recently been restored to its 1937 condition with help from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Original fixtures and fittings have been installed in the Booking Office and Parcels Office, as well as in the Tea Room.
Levisham station is set in the scenic Newton Dale valley, and is an ideal location for walking, with a wide variety of wildlife and flowers within a short distance of the station. It has been used for the filming location of the All Creatures Great and Small, Brideshead Revisited, Poirot and Sherlock Holmes television series.
Newton Dale Halt is a walkers' request stop. There are excellent walks and beautiful scenery.
Goathland has been the location for Aidensfield in the Yorkshire TV series Heartbeat and its station was used as Hogsmeade station in the Harry Potter films. The station has a newly refurbished Goods Waggon Tea Room.
