Nuclear magneton - Definition and Overview

The nuclear magneton (symbol <math>\mu_p<math>), is a physical constant of magnetic moment, defined by:

<math>\mu_p = {{e \hbar} \over {2 m_p}}<math>

where:

<math>e<math> is the elementary charge,
<math>\hbar<math> is the reduced Planck's constant,
<math>m_p<math> is the proton rest mass

In the SI system of units its value is approximately:

<math>\mu_p<math> = 5.050 786 6(17) × 10-27 J·T-1
