Null Device is a band started in 1991 by Eric Oehler and Dr. Eric Goedken, who attended the University of Wisconsin together. Other more recent band contributors are guitarist Dan Clark, vocalist Heather O'Brien and string ensemble Orkestra Evimde. Named after /dev/null, the group was originally an informal university gathering for computer software people interested in techno music. The two members of the band experimented with various music for some time, attracting some local success. They devoted more time to creating music in 1997 when their first demos were created. They were finally signed to Nilaihah Records in 2002.
Null Device has contributed to various projects with a number of other industrial and techno artists, including Armageddon Dildos, Attrition, Axoe, Blind Faith and Envy, Distorted Reality, Epsilon Minus, Hungry Lucy, Polymorphous Perverse, Stochastic Theory and Stromkern.
