ODEON - Definition and Overview

Oscar Deutsch was the creator of the ODEON cinema chain in the United Kingdom. The name of the was derived from Deutsch's motto, "Oscar Deutsch Entertains Our Nation."

Birmingham born, he opened his first cinema in Perry Barr. By 1930 the Odeon was a household name.

Deutsch sold the chain to the business interests of J. Arthur Rank, who was in the process of forming the Rank Organisation.

The Odeon brand still thrives today.
