Octaviano Ambrosio Larrazolo - Definition and Overview


Octaviano Ambrosio Larrazolo December 7, 1859 - April 7, 1930 a Senator from New Mexico. He was born in Allende in Chihuahua, Mexico and died in Albuquerque.

Larrazolo was the first Hispanic to be a senator. He wasn’t a senator for more than six months because he got sick. Originally he was in the Democratic Party but when the State Convention of the Democratic Party had denied his request that one-half of all statewide nominees be Hispanic to represent the sixty percent of the population of New Mexico that was Hispanic he resigned and joined the Republican Party.
