Ogaden - Definition and Overview

Ogaden is a territory that is part of Ethiopia. Most of its inhabitants are Somali. Dispute over this area has been a cause for war between Somalia and Ethiopia. Somalia once successfully captured the territory but was defeated by Cuban troops and technologically superior weapons supplied to Ethiopia by the Soviet Union.

Swedish aviator Carl Gustav von Rosen was killed in 1977 in a guerilla attack while flying supplies to refugees of the Ogaden war.
