On the Genealogy of Morals (Zur Genealogie der Moral) is book by Friedrich Nietzsche, originally published in 1887.
Nietzsche intended the book to be a sequel to Beyond Good and Evil, "meant to supplement and clarify."
The book contains three essays. The first, "'Good and Evil,' 'Good and Bad'" is an elaboration of his ideas of master morality and slave morality, focusing on the origins of these differing systems and juxtaposing them. The second is entitled "'Guilt,' 'Bad conscience,' and the Like" and the third, "What is the Meaning of Ascetic Ideals?".
