The Ona also called Selk'nam, a now-extinct people, inhabited the far south of Patagonia, in Chile and Argentina, and especially Tierra del Fuego. The Selk´nam were hunter-gatherers and nomads, and the fires they set to keep warm led to the island of Tierra del Fuego being so named (the name means "Land of Fire" in Spanish).
When the Spaniards arrived in the region, they killed many Ona outright, and diseases they brought, heretofore unencountered among the native population, killed others. It is believed that the Ona became completely extinct by around 1930.
Ona was also the name of an angel in Enochian: see List of angels in Enochian.
