OpenLDAP - Definition and Overview

OpenLDAP is a free, open source implementation of the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP). It is released under its own OpenLDAP license. It has been included with several common Linux distributions.

It is comprised mainly of these four components:

  • slapd - stand-alone LDAP daemon
  • slurpd - stand-alone LDAP update replication daemon
  • libraries implementing the LDAP protocol
  • utilities, tools, and sample clients.
