 Orange SA - Definition

See also Orange (disambiguation) for other meanings of the word.

Orange SA is a major mobile phone operator, initially a division of Hutchison Whampoa and a successor to their failed point to point mobile telephone system known as Rabbit. Despite being originally from the UK, it has been acquired by France Telecom and is thus their mobile branch. It is present in many parts of the world, including Australia, India (Mumbai only), France, United Kingdom, Israel, Switzerland, Dominican Republic, Slovakia (see Orange Slovensko) and Romania (see Orange Romania).

Orange belongs to the Freemove cell phone alliance.

In Australia, the name and brand of the Orange group are used under license by Hutchinson Whampoa. Thus, although equally branded, Orange Australia does not belong to the Orange Group. Note that Orange Australia uses CDMA (Qualcomm's cdmaONE, aka IS-95) cell phone technology, while the rest of the Orange companies use GSM.
