Controversy in a number of churches over the ordination of women as priests or ministers.
The Anglican communion on the whole accepts women priests, and more recently women bishops, although some conservative provinces and dioceses still reject them.
The Catholic church hierarchy rejects women priests. They argue that a priest is a Vicar of Christ, and that being female, a woman could never be a proper representative of Christ a man. However, many Catholics disagree with this view.
Many liberal, mainline, and even many conservative Protestant churches ordain women, although some conservative churches do not.
