The Orlando area, also known as Greater Orlando, is home to the state of Florida's third most densely populated metropolitan region. The Orlando metropolitan area has a population of 1.8 million according to the 2000 U.S. Census. The size of the city of Orlando is very usual for a metropolitan area of its size because the city's total population only tops at 185,951. The reason for this here in Greater Orlando is because most of the inhibitants of the metropolitan area lives in the suburbs and unincorporated areas of the very dense counties of Orange and Seminole.
