Oscar Melendez - Definition and Overview

Oscar Melendez (born c. 1964) is a Puerto Rican who is a former member of boy band Menudo.

Melendez is the cousin of the band's founder, Edgardo Diaz. He and his two brothers, Carlos and Ricky, along with the Sallaberry brothers were the band's original members.

Oscar Melendez's era at Menudo was before the group became worldwide famous. When Oscar was in the band, the group did, however, become famous in Puerto Rico, and the Puerto Rican public became familiarized with Oscar and the rest of the group by reading about them on magazines like Vea, Teve Guia, Estrellita, Artistas and others.

Oscar Melendez participated at fiestas patronales almost every weekend as a member of Menudo. In addition, he participated on Menudo's channel 2's television show.

Oscar Melendez left the band just before Menudo became an internationally known group. Nevertheless, he did participate on a few of Menudo's first hit songs, such as their Spanish version of ABBA's "Voulez Vous" and "Los Fantasmas".

Oscar Melendez has led a relatively quiet life after his years as a Menudo.
