Ota, Gunma - Definition

Ōta (Japanese: 太田市; -shi) is a city located in Gunma, Japan.

As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 149,873 and the density of 1,529.94 persons per km². The total area is 97.96 km².

The city was founded on May 3, 1948 and the mayor is Masayoshi Shimizu. The city is home to Fuji Heavy Industries, Ltd.

On April 1st, 2005, Nitta Town, Ojima Town, and Yabuzukahon Town are expected to be annexed by Ōta City.
