Ottawa Bluesfest - Definition and Overview

The Ottawa Bluesfest, fully the Ottawa Cisco Systems Bluesfest celebrates blues and gospel music for nine days in July at Ottawa City Hall's Festival Plaza and various other downtown locations.

The festival started in 1994 at Majors Hill Park, attracting 5000 spectators. Since that time it has grown immensely, becoming the largest blues festival in Canada, and the second largest in North America. In 2003, 220,300 people came to see the likes of Ben Harper, Sheryl Crow, Sum 41, the Allman Brother's Band, and Dan Aykroyd & Jim Belushi.
