Otto Kerner - Definition and Overview

Otto Kerner, Jr. was Governor of Illinois from 1961-68. His father-in-law was former Mayor of Chicago Anton Cermak. He is best known for chairing the Kerner Commission on racial tension.

In 1973 he was sentenced to federal prison for his complicity in a racetrack bribery scandal. His prosecuter was future-Illinois governor James R. Thompson.
