Ovaltine is a drink marketed by Twinings in the U.K. It was originally produced by a Swiss company and manufactured in Britain until 2002 but is now manufactured in another European country. The League Of Ovaltineys club was a children's club intended to promote the sale of Ovaltine and enchance its image, as well as provide fun for children. The club, founded in 1935, had its own radio show on Radio Luxembourg. It achieved 5 million members in 1939. This was a time when few people had televisions, and radio was all important as a medium, and had huge audiences.
Members of the club received a membership badge and book and the chance to take part in competitions and other activities. There was a weekly comic too. In the late sixties the Ovaltineys club was relaunched aimed at modern children, and in addition to their badge members received a record with instrumental songs performed in a "pop" style. The Presidents of the new club were Morecambe and Wise who were already a British favourite. A commemorative record was released a few years ago.
