Pactolus - Definition and Overview

Pactolus is a river, now in modern Turkey. This river contained gold sands that were the basis of the economy of the ancient state of Lydia. The legendary King Midas washed away his power to convert anything he touched to gold in this river after he discovered he was growing hungry.
