Palo Alto High School is a High School in Palo Alto, California. It was founded in 1898, and today has about 1700 students. In 2002, it was ranked by Newsweek as the 199th best public high school in the United States based on test scores [1] (http://www.csh.k12.ny.us/highschool/data/TheTopHighSchools.htm). Palo Alto High School, or Paly for short, has excellent sports teams and test scores. The intense rivalry between Gunn and PALY athletics has been occuring for many years.
The school mascot is the Viking.

Calliope is Paly's literary magazine, published once or twice a year.
The Campanile is Paly's most famous publication. It claims the largest circulation of any high school newspaper in the Bay Area.

Verde is Paly's school magazine, published five times each year.

Orientation
The school is surrounded by four relatively large streets. Across Embarcadero Road is the Town & Country Village Shopping Center. Behind the school runs the Caltrain rail tracks, which separate the school from Alma Street. Across El Camino Real lies the Stanford University campus. Across Churchill Avenue is an expanse of residential area. The school can reached by VTA line 22, the Dumbarton Express, SamTrans line KX, and Stanford's free Marguerite shuttle, in addition to the Palo Alto city shuttle, which runs along Embarcadero Road.
