Parkend is a village in the Forest of Dean which has a history dating back to the early 1800s. At one time it was a mining village. The village has two pubs. One attraction of Parkend is the Nagshead Nature Reserve. A new housing development now stands on the historic site of Parkend House Hotel. Parkend railway station is currently being restored, part of the Dean Forest Railway. Parkend also has a cricket club that has several teams at different age levels. The Parkend Players are one of the organisations in the village; it has most of its shows at the memorial hall in Parkend. Another attraction is the Dean Field Study Centre.
