Also, known as Sequential Monte Carlo (SMC), particle filter methods are sophisticated model estimation techniques based on simulation. They are usually used to estimate Bayesian models and are the sequential ('on-line') analogue of Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) batch methods.
