Pat Mills - Definition and Overview

Pat Mills is one of the major figures in the British comic book industry as both an editor and writer. His comics are noted for their violence, anti-authoritarianism and black humour.

He started his career as sub-editor for D. C. Thomson & Co. Ltd before leaving them in 1971 to become a freelancer. He revitalised British boys' comics in the 1970s, creating Battle Picture Weekly, Action and 2000 AD for IPC Magazines. Other comics he has created include Crisis and Toxic!.

As a writer he is responsible for Charley's War, with artist Joe Colquhoun, for Battle; Ro-Busters, ABC Warriors, Nemesis the Warlock, Sláine and others for 2000AD; and Marshal Law, with Kevin O'Neill, for Marvel Comics's Epic imprint, among others.

He has also written the Franco-Belgian comic Requiem Chevalier Vampire with Olivier Ledroit.
