Patrickswell (Irish: Tobar Phádraig) is a small town in County Limerick, Ireland. The town is located only 10 km from Limerick city, and as a result relies on the city and its suburbs for secondary schools, shops, banks and other facilities. Nevertheless, the town has a main street, with shops, garages, ATMs and a post office. There are several housing estates off from the main street, with population of a few thousand, whose inhabitants mainly commute to the city. Due to only having one major street, and Patrickswell's dormitary town nature, it is more a village in appearance, despite its population.
The town is located next to the N20/N21 road, which until 2001, ran through the town. A railway line to Adare and Foynes runs next to the town, though Patrickswell station is long closed. The station was at one stage Patrickswell Junction, with direct Limerick–Cork trains parting from trains bound for Foynes or North Kerry and Tralee. Passenger trains first ceased on the Cork direct line, then in the 1970s the North Kerry line closed (see Irish railway history). Freight trains to Foynes ran until 1999, and technically that branch is still open. As of 2004 the last movement was a weedspray train in 2002.
