Paul Boutin is a freelance magazine writer who specializes in stories about technology's effects on everyday lives. He is currently on the masthead at Slate Magazine and is also a contributing editor to Wired magazine. He has also recently written for The New York Times, The New Republic, MSNBC, Reader's Digest, Salon.com, Outside, Cargo, the Independent Film & Video Monthly, InfoWorld, and PC World. Before turning pro as a journalist, he spent 15 years as an engineer and manager at MIT and in Silicon Valley.
