Located in Baltimore, Maryland, the Peabody Conservatory of Music (or just "The Peabody") is one of the most prestigious musical institutions in the world, and also the first conservatory in America.
Founded in 1857 by philanthropist George Peabody, the Conservatory was purchased by Johns Hopkins University in 1977 and has been under the direction of Hopkins ever since. The Peabody Conservatory is the larger part of the Peabody Institute, comprised of the Conservatory and the Peabody Preparatory.
