Peacemaker (comics) - Definition

The Peacemaker is a fictional character owned by Charlton Comics who was later acquired by DC Comics.

He is a pacifist diplomat who is so committed to peace that he is willing to use force as a superhero to advance the cause.

When the character was acquired by DC Comics, this contradictory motivation was explained as a serious mental illness brought on by the shame of having a Nazi death camp commandant for a father. He believes that his father's spirit haunts him continually and criticizes his every move even as he tries to live down his past.

The character was adapted in the famous comic book Watchmen as The Comedian.
