A peak is a mountaintop that has been modified by the action of ice during glaciation. Ice fields develop bowl shaped basins in the sides of a mountain called cirques. These encroach on each other to produce ridges known as arĂȘtes. The meeting of three or more arĂȘtes forms a peak.
