Pelham Bay, Bronx, New York - Definition

Pelham Bay is a neighborhood in the Bronx, in New York City. It is adjacent to the largest park in New York City, Pelham Bay Park.

Pelham Bay includes the area formerly known as Middletown and is a predominantly Italian neighborhood. While Arthur Avenue/Belmont is a commercial hub of Italian culture, Pelham Bay is not only that, but also an entire neighborhood. It can be described as the overlooked Little Italy of the Bronx. Pelham Bay is very similar to the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn.

A variety of stores and eateries line the streets of this neighborhood, including Crosby Avenue, Westchester Avenue, Buhre Avenue and Middletown Road.

Pelham Bay Park is the last stop on the 6 train of the New York City subway system. The neighborhood has two other stops as well.
