Penn Masala - Definition and Overview

Penn Masala is a Hindi a cappella group formed in 1996 by some students at the University of Pennsylvania.

They combine South Asian music with a Western musical style. They have featured in the soundtrack of American Desi, and have released three CDs: Awaaz, 11PM and Soundcheck, all of which have received critical acclaim.

Most of their songs are Hindi film songs readapted into an a capella style, though they have composed a few songs of their own. They also have sung quite a few English songs. Their greatest Hindi hits are "Meri Sapno Ki Rani" and "Aap Jaise Koi," which were both featured in American Desi.
