A Peregrine class starship relates to a Federation ship from the sci-fi series Star Trek.
The Peregrine series space craft is a small one to two man fighter developed by the Federation prior to the start of TNG. It is properly called the Peregrine Tactical Fighter for its role in combat against both spaceships and other fighter craft. Commonly called the TAC-Fighter by its pilots. The Federation developed the design but did not put it into heavy use. The Maquis used modified, lightly armed Peregrine-class ships as interceptors in their war against the Cardassians. When the Dominion War started the Federation began modernizing its TAC-Fighter fleet by replacing older pulse phasers with newer micro pulse phaser cannons and wing mounted micro torpedo launchers.
The Peregrine Tactical Fighter is a small lightly armed tactical ship with warp drives. Its small size and armament requires that it base off some sort of carrier type vehicle or installation such as a starbase. Starfleets extensive use of the Peregrine in the Dominion War proved a technological edge against the Dominion and its allies. Flights of 4-6 TAC-Fighters were sufficent to heavily damage War upgraded Galor class cruisers.
