Performative utterance - Definition and Overview |

Performative utterances are speech acts which perform the action the sentence describes. Performative utterances are almost always in the first person present tense.
Examples:
- "I now pronounce you man and wife."
- "I sentence you to death."
- "I promise to be there."
- "I apologize."
