Persil Persil

Persil - Definition and Overview

Persil is a brand of laundry detergent made by Unilever in some countries (including the UK) and Henkel in others (including Germany and the Netherlands). In the UK, Unilever makes Persil in both biological and non-biological forms, the latter of which has been a major marketing point as it is "kinder on the skin". The name is derived from two of its original ingredients, perborate and silicate, but the name is deemed unsuitable as an international brand, being for example hard to pronounce in Hindi and meaning "Parsley" in French.
