Pertactin (PRN) is a virulence factor of B.pertussis. It is an outer membrane protein that promotes adhesion to ciliated respiratory epithelium. PRN is highly immunogenic. Detoxified components of the pertactin protein are used in the production of acellular pertussis vaccine.
