General Peter J. Schoomaker became the 35th Chief of Staff of the United States Army (CSA) on August 1, 2003. His appointment was unusual in that he was called out of retirement to take up the post. Prior to his first retirement he served as head of the United States Special Operations Command. As member of the United States special forces, General Schoomaker had participated in the failed military attempt to resuce the embassy hostages in Iran. External link
