Produced by Robert Frip, Peter Gabriel's 1978 album was released to lukewarm reviews. The album did not sell as well as the first one had. Mother of Violence was written by Peter and his wife Jill Gabriel. Gabriel divorced the same year, which added to the dark depressing mood of the record.
