The pfennig was a small German coin valued at 1/100 of a Deutsche Mark and other German currencies with the name Mark. The Deutschmark pfennig became obsolete with the introduction of euro coins and notes in 2002. The pfennig was originally a small silver coin first produced during the Middle Ages. Before 1945, when the German currency was still the RM (Reichs-Mark) there was a special sign for the pfennig: ₰ (Unicode: 8368 (dec), 20B0 (hex)). The pfennig is 1/100 of Bosnia and Herzegovina's Convertible Mark.
